Thursday 31st May.....Win in Echo KO A fine all-round performance by Phil Calrow was the highlight of Sefton Park's
6 run Echo Knockout win at Chester Boughton Hall. He scored 56 in Sefton's
total of 141 for 6 in the 20 overs, Ben Moore made 44, and then came on to
bowl as Chester looked like making the required total finishing with 2 for
22 as the home team reached 135 for 7. |
Saturday 2nd June...First XI win at Highfield
It was another good day for Sefton Park's teams with the first three winning.
The 1stXI visited Highfield and at one time were 39 for 5 and then 72 for
6 but Robbie Houghton came to the rescue, scoring 82 not out. Chris Wylie
made a valuable 40 runs and Sefton went on to finish on 193. In reply, Highfield
were dismissed for 123 with Dave Poskitt taking 3 for 20 and Robbie Houghton
completing a fine all round performance by taking 3 for 39. Northern were the visitors to Sefton Park for the 2ndXI game. Sefton were
put in to bat and thanks to a stand of 157 between Nick Cockrell (89) and
Paul Squires (55), reached 235 for 7 declared. Gaz Cowley (21 not out) and
Neil Disley (21) also scored runs. Northern reached 123 before they lost a
wicket and still looked likely winners until Peter Kelly intervened with a
fine bowling performance, taking 5 for 63 to dismiss the visitors for 209,
Paul Squires took 2 for 49. |

The 3rdXI entertained Liverpool on the Lower Ground and bowled out the visitors
for115 with Brian Viner, bowling unchanged for 20.3 overs from one end, taking
4 for 33. Tom Baird took 3 wickets in his 5 overs. In reply Matt Child (54
not out) and Ollie Shears (43 not out) steered Sefton to a 9 wickets victory. The 4thXI travelled to Birchfield Park and dismissed the home side for 150
with Robin Brown (3 for 23) and Sam Gainer (3 for 32) taking wickets. Sefton,
however, could only reach 80 with Jakob Surtees-Smith scoring 24 and James
Baird 16 not out.. |

Saturday 9th June.....Win at Newton le Willows
The 1stXI visited Newton le Willows and were put in to bat. This week's star
man with the bat was John Jackson who scored 88 in Sefton's total of 224 for
8 declared in 60 overs. Chris Bellis (46), Robbie Houghton (24) and Ben Moore
(22) all made valuable contributions. In reply the home team were dismissed
for 130 in the 44th over with Graham Cashin taking 5 for 20 and Robbie Houghton
4 for 48. The 2ndXI's home game was also against Newton le Willows. This time Sefton
won the toss, put the visitors in to bat and saw them go on to make 233 for
3 declared in 49 overs. Sefton's reply went well with Ian Seabury scoring
59, Rhys Jowett 42, John Davies 39 and Max Hill 21 but in the end Peter Kelly
was left facing the last ball of the day requiring two to win. The ball was
a wide so then it was then one to win which Peter achieved by hitting a four
to win the game and finish on 23 not out himself. |

The
3rd and 4th elevens both played New Brighton sides. The 3rdXI were away to New
Brighton's PD XI and were bowled out for 109, Adam Rowland top scoring with
34. In reply the home side lost two wickets in reaching the required total.
On the Lower Ground New Brighton AH XI completed a double for their club by
defeating the 4thXI. Sefton won the toss, put New Brighton and saw them go on
to make 247 for 4, Iwan Williams bowled well for his 2 for 36. Sefton put up
a good fight and fell 22 runs short of the New Brighton total, finishing on
225. Skipper Robin Surtees scored 55, Kev Walton made 36 and Nev Bann 22. |
