Saturday 16th June......Home draw against Formby
League leaders Formby visited Sefton Park and found that the ground had suffered
from the overnight and morning rain. A new strip was cut at the drier end
of the square and thanks to the work of groundsman Steve Briggs and helpers,
the game started only 45 minutes late. Formby won the toss and decided to
bowl first and even after a fine innings of 55 by John Jackson, Sefton found
themselves at 111 for 8. A stand of 70 between David Baird (42 not out) and
Dave Poskitt (30) took them to 181 all out. In reply Formby looked in a strong
position but after the first wicket fell at 70, they lost the others fairly
regularly and found themselves having to defend the last ball to save the
game which finished as a draw with Formby 8 runs short of the Sefton total.
Robbie Houghton was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 for 47.
