Saturday 30th June.....All games rained off
A wet June finished with all the Sefton Park games being called of because
of the rain. Next weekend we have a First XI home game and the Sefton
Park Sixes. Let's hope for some better weather |

Sunday 1st July..2ndXI win Bowl Out
The only cricket action of the weekend involved the 2ndXI who travelled
to Southport for their Chester Cup which was abandoned. As the final
date for playing the tie had been reached, they donned their whites
and won a 10 ball "bowl out" 4 - 1. The bowl out involved
5 bowlers bowling 2 balls each. They now move in to the last eight of
the competition. |

Saturday 7th July.......Victory against Orrell Red Triangle
Following the rain during the week, we must thank Steve Briggs and helpers
who enabled the 1stXI game against Orrell Red Triangle to start on time. Sefton
won the toss and elected to bat, going on to score 174 for 5 declared in 55
overs. Paul Squires 44 not out, Chris Bellis 33 and John Jackson 20 top scored.
In reply, the visitors reached 48 before they lost a wicket but when Robbie
Houghton came on to bowl, the wickets fell quickly and they were dismissed
for 117 with Robbie Houghton taking 5 for 17, David Baird 2 for 39 and Graham
Cashin 2 for 11. |

The 2nd XI travelled to Ormskirk, were but in to bat and dismissed for 83
with Ted Williams scoring 24. The home side lost 3 wickets in reaching the
required total.
On the Lower Ground, Birchfield Park were the visitors and Sefton were optimistic
after dismissing them for 89 with Brian Viner taking 5 for 28, Nick Saunders
2 for 11 and Peter Hazlehurst 2 for 9 bit in reply they only reached 79. Vince
Abel scored 47 as Sefton reached 55 before losing a wicket.
The 4thXI faired no better in their visit to Ormskirk. They batted first
and scored 169 for 9 declared with Sam Gainer (55) ans Dave Walton (30) top
scoring. In reply Ormskirk reached 170 for the loss of 3 wickets. Naj Ahmed
took 2 for 30 |

Saturday 14th July....Defeat at Wavertree
Following a few days more rain, Sefton were put in to bat on a wet wicket
at Wavertree and were dismissed for 77 with only Robbie Houghton (17), Phil
Calrow (15 not out) and Ritchie Bann (11) reaching double figures. In reply
two early wickets from Dave Poskitt gave Sefton some hope but the home side
took 23 overs to reach the required total for the loss of 3 wickets |

The
2ndXI were at home and recorded the one Sefton Park victory of the day when
they dismissed Huyton for 106 with Ted Williams taking 4 for 16 and Peter Kelly
3 for 46. In reply Max Hill (24 retired hurt) and Ted Williams (20 not out)
were the top scorers as Sefton won by 5 wickets. |

The 3rd XI travelled to New Brighton to play their AHXI. They were put in
to bat and reached 234 for 4, with Peter Jones (48), Vince Abel (23), Jonny
Woodsmith (59 not out) and Matt Childs (74 not out) making the biggest contributions.
In reply New Brighton reached 110 for 4 to drawn the game with John Sprosen
taking 2 for 9.
Liverpool thirds were the visitors on the Lower Ground to play the 4thXI.
Sefton won the toss, put the visitors in to bat and saw them go on to make
230 for 4 with Robin Surtees taking 3 for 47. In reply Sefton were dismissed
for 108. |

Saturday 21st July....What a Summer!!
This weekend began with the Echo Knockout being called off on Friday, the
most likely date for this fixture now being Monday 30th July.
This was followed by all the Saturday cricket being called off, followed
by the Sunday XI's home game and the 2nd XI Chester Cup game at Maghull.
We were left with the 3rdXI Embee Cup semi-final against Ainsdale which lasted
5.2 overs with Ainsdale on 13 for 1. It is hoped to play this game next week.
