Saturday 15th September...Season ends with home defeat by Northop Hall

The 1stXI's outside chance of promotion disappeared with a home defeat by Northop Hall. The away side won the toss and decided to bat first, going on to score 146 all out. Dave Poskitt completed his 50 league wickets for the season and took 5 for 44, David Baird took 3 for 23. In reply, John Jackson scored 23 and reached his 500 league runs for the season but was the only one to reach double figures as Sefton were dismissed for their lowest score of the season, 54.

The 2ndXI escaped relegation with a draw at Wallasey. They won the toss, decided to bat and went on to score 197 for 5 declared with Ian Seabury (51), John Davies (39) and Scott Isaac (35 not out) top scoring. The home side finished on 195 for 8 with Peter Kelly taking 5 for 85.

The 3rdXI also visited Wallasey where the home side batted first and declared on 185 for 5. Sefton passed the total for the loss of six wickets with skipper James Pearce scoring 60 and Jonny Woodsmith making 46.

The 4thXI entertained Bootle on the Lower Ground. They were put in to bat and scored 158. Vince Abel scored 53 and Terry Cordner 40. In reply there was an exciting finish as a Nev Bann took a slip catch off Vince Abel's bowling to claim Bootle's last wicket with two balls left and Bootle one short of the Sefton total. Robert Kelly (3 for 24), Vince Abel (3 for 17) and Robin Surtees (2 for 33).
