Saturday 3rd May......Defeat at Rainford

The 1stXI visited newly promoted Rainford and were put in to bat. They, again, found runs hard to get and were dismissed for 76 with only John Jackson (15), Ben Moore (12) and Paul Squires (12) reaching double figures. In reply the home side lost just two wickets in reaching the required total.

The 2ndXI, at home to Wallasey were defeated in the last over of the day. Sefton were put in to bat and reached 205 for 5 in 45 overs. New boy Rob Hurley scored 75, Ian Seabury 51, Scott Isaac 36 and Phil Calrow 21 not out. Dave Kirby with 3 for 45 was the pick of the home bowlers as Wallasey won by 2 wickets with 3 balls to spare.

The 3rdXI played Wavertree thirds on the Lower Ground. The visitors were dismissed for 83 with Brian Viner taking 3 for 13 and Robin Brown 4 for 24. Sefton lost 5 wickets in reaching the required total with Rick Anderson (39) top scoring.

The 4thXI visited New Brighton to play their AH XI. They won the toss, put the home side in to bat, and saw them go on to reach 168 for 8 in 54 overs with Peter Hazlehurst taking 3 for 24. Sefton's reply was 132 for 9 with Terry Cordner (37) and Jakob Surtees-Smith (33) top scoring in a drawn game.

Sefton Park fielded five sides for the first time on a Saturday for the first time with other weeks having cancellations. They visited Huyton and dismissed the home side for 21. Top bowlers were Stuart Lomas (3 for 3), James Manley (3 for 5) and skipper Jamie Bowman (2 for 0). The required total was reached for the loss of one wicket.

Cockspur Cup

The 1stXI Cockspur Cup game against Elton CC from Bury was called off because of the weather. Hopefully, it will be played next Sunday, 11th May

Monday 5th May 2008.....A win against Skelmersdale

The 1stXI entertained another newly promoted side in Skelmersdale. The visitors won the toss and decided to bowl. Sefton started well and reached 46 before the first wicket fell with Ben Moore scoring 35 and Chris Bellis making 10. However only James Cain (21) of the remaining batsmen went on to make double figures as they were dismissed for 97. In reply, Skelmersdale reached 67 before the third wicket fell but went on to be dismissed for 89. There was outstanding bowling performances from Dave Baird (5 for 26) and Robbie Houghton (3 for 19)

The 2ndXI visited Northop Hall, put the home side in and saw them bat for 56 overs to reach 150 for 8 declared. In reply Sefton took under 37 overs to reach the required total for the loss of 5 wickets with Peter Jones (43) and Rob Hurley (36) top scoring.
