Saturday 6th September.......Promotion

After a few nervous weeks the 1stXI gained promotion with a victory at home against St Helens on a rain affected day. Southport's win at Liverpool means that they are champions.

There was a lot of hard work dragging the cover on and off a number of times before St Helens won the toss and asked Sefton Park to bat.

Pictured on the left are the three players who made the news on the day. Paul Horton (right) passed 1000 runs in the league in his score of 34, this is a remarkable achievement for the young captain. Sefton went on to make 167 for 9 declared with Vin Mane (41), Ben Moore (39) and Chris Whelan (21) being the other main contributors. St Helens were progressing reasonably well before Robbie Houghton (pictured on the left) and Howard Parker (centre) came onto to bowl just before the last 20 overs. The visitors had no answer to the two bowlers who had seen off Southport last week and were dismissed for 79 leaving the players and supporters all looking forward to being back in the Premier Division next season.

The 2nd XI game at Ormskirk was called off without a ball being bowled. This means that they have been relegated.

On the Lower Ground, the two 3rdXI's of Nev Bann and Ras Salim met in the league. Pictured right are the two captains tossing up. The game was a little disappointing as the 3NB XI were dismissed for 79, with Robin Surtees taking 4 for 30 and Pamma Singh an excellent 4 for 13 in 13 overs. The 3RS XI lost 3 wickets in achieving the required total.
