Saturday 28th June....1stXI draw at Leigh.

The 1stXI visited Leigh, won the toss and decided to bat. They soon lost wickets and found themselves on 9 for 3 but recovered to reach 200 all out in the 65th over. Top scorers were Chris Bellis (42), Robbie Houghton (35), David Baird (22) and Peter Jones (21). There was, also, 46 extras to help the total!. In reply, Leigh always struggled and eventually finished on 104 for 7 in 37 overs as the game was drawn. David Baird took 3 for 34 and there were 2 wickets apiece for Robbie Houghton and Dave Finch.

The 2ndXI were home to Northern and after a good start were dismissed for for 103. Dave Hort (34), Vince Abel (21) and Scott Isaac (19) top scored. In reply Northern did not find there task too easy but eventually reached the required total for the loss of 7 wickets. Phil Calrow took 3 for 17 and Shah Wali 2 for 29.

The 3rdXI played Bootle on the Lower Ground and dismissed the visitors for 138, Sam Lister took 4 for 41, Robin Brown 2 for 23 and Dan Kelly 2 for 8. Nick Blackburn scored 54 as Sefton won by 5 wickets.

The 4th and 5th XI's were both defeated at Northern.

The fourths played Northern thirds and were dismissed for 75 with Kev Walton scoring 26. Northern lost 4 wickets to win the game. Rob Kelly took 2 for 26 and Mark Boyns 2 for 24.

Northern 6thXI batted first against Sefton's 5thXI and declared on 185 for 7. Sefton were dismissed for 121 with the most resistance coming from Ted Williams who scored 47 not out

Friday 4th July...Defeat in Echo KO

Sefton were knocked out of the Echo Knockout following a 51 runs defeat by Formby at Sefton Park. The visitors batted first and scored 159 for 4, Phil Calrow took 2 for 29. In reply, after a good start, Sefton were dismissed for 108 with Chris Wylie (32), Ben Moore (18) and Rob Hurley (17) top scoring.

Barbecue Thanks

Following the highly successful barbecue on Friday 4th July Howie Baird wishes to give his thanks he says, " Thanks to John Kelly & Barrie Ventre for providing the meat, Kevin Parr, Nick Manley & Barrie Ventre for cooking the food, Liz Ventre & Andy Battersby for serving the food. Jan Kelly for doing all the salads, Mike Foster for sorting the Music & the Casino. , Rebecca Bennett & Jackie Kelly for selling the raffle. Lord Ted & Liz for help with the salads, photography & everything else. Brian Viner & his friends for the fantastic music. To John & Leo for all their help & to Dave Cunningham & all the bar staff who I hope had a very busy night. Finally to all the juniors & members whose behaviour created a great atmosphere. I'll never forget feeding all those ducks on the outfield & there was some very big ducks out there."

Saturday 5th July...Defeat by Newton le Willows

A thunder storm before the start meant that the 1stXI home game against Newton le Willows did not start until 3:20pm.

Sefton won the toss and put the visitors in to bat. They went on to score 166 for 5 declared in 44.3 overs. In reply, Sefton looked in a strong position but after the fifth wicket went on 119, they scored only 3 more runs to be dismissed for 122 in 31 overs.

The 2ndXI visited Ormskirk and were put in to bat. They declared on 206 for 6 in the 51st over with Ian Seabury (68), N Saunders (33), Vince Abel (27) and Jonny Sproson (22) top scoring. Ormskirk reached the Sefton total for the loss of 4 wickets in the 40th over. Dave Kirby took 2 for 30.

The 4thXI visited Birchfield Park to play their 3rdXI. They batted first and found themselves on 45 for 5 but an undefeated stand of 124 between Robin Surtees (63 not out) and Nev Bann (51 not out) enabled them to declare on 169 for 5 in 52 overs. This was not enough, however, as the home side reached the required total in the 39th over for the loss of 7 wickets, Mark Boyns took 4 for 40.

The third and fifth XI games were called off without a ball bowled following the thunder storm.

Sunday 6th July....Two cup defeats

A disappointing weekend continued with two cup defeats.

The 2ndXI travelled to New Brighton and were dismissed for 124 in 34.1 overs. Nick Cockrell scored 40 and Shah Wali 23. In reply New Brighton lost 5 wickets in 26.4 overs in reaching the required total, Phil Calrow took 3 for 29.

The 3rdXI visited Northern who beat them in last year's final. In a rain affected game Northern scored 139 for 2 in 28.1 overs. The game was reduced to 25 overs and Sefton lost when the sixth wicket fell according to the rules of the Competition. James Pearce scored 19 not out and Dave Walton score 19.
