Saturday 2nd August...Six wickets for Peter Kelly in victory over Northop Hall

Second place Northop Hall visited Sefton Park, won the toss and decided to field first. Sefton scored 244 for 8 declared, declaring in the 66th over. Chris Bellis scored 85, James Cain 47, acting skipper Paul Squires scored 20 in a stand of 74 for the 5th wicket with Chris Bellis. The eight wicket produced an undefeated 56 runs (Peter Kelly 33 not out) and Gaz Cowley (19 not out). Ben Moore (13) completed his 500 league runs for the season. Northop Hall's reply started well and they reached 132 before the second wicket fell but then they fell quickly and Peter Kelly took 6 for 43 as they were dismissed for 162 in the 42nd over. An outstanding performance for a Sefton Park's side whose average age was 22.

The 2ndXI visited Southport and dismissed the home side for 192, Dave Kirby (3 for 55) and Dan Kelly (3 for 40) were the pick of the bowlers. In reply Sefton held out for a draw, finishing on 133 for 9 with Ted Williams (25) and Scott Isaac (22) top scoring.

The 3rdXI travelled to top of the table Northern thirds. Vince Abel scored 92 in Sefton's score of 207 all out. Northern were 58 for 6 but held on to finish with 130 for 7 in a drawn game, Sam Lister took 3 for 51.

The 4thXI had a bottom of the table game against Wavertree's thirds on the Lower Ground. Iwan Williams (33) and Simon Gozzard (30) were Sefton's leading scorers in their score of 116 allout. This did not prove sufficient as the visitors reached the total for the loss of 4 wickets. Brian Viner took 2 for 53 and Tom Robertson bowled well to take 2 for 21.

The 5thXI visited Caldy, where the home side were put in to bat and declared on 210 for 6. Steve Shaw took 3 for 13 and Jamie Bowman 2 for 44. Sefton replied with 152 for 8 in a drawn game. Chris Mitchell (30 not out), Jamie Bowman (21) and Matty Shaw (19) in a drawn game.

Sefton Park's commitment to field a fifth Saturday XI, which enables more junior members to get a senior game hits problems with the school holiday season. Skipper Jamie Bowman wishes to thank all who helped him to field a side and hopes they enjoyed the game.

Another disappointing Saturday for weather saw all the Sefton Park games called off.

Next Saturday, we begin the early starts with the 1stXI being 12:00 noon and all the others 12:45pm.
