Saturday 27th June...Defeat at Rainford.

The First XI travelled to Rainford where the home side won the toss and decided to bat. At 60 for 3 Sefton were in a good position but the home side put on 120 for the next wicket and went on to declare on 246 for 4 in 53 overs. Rob Houghton and Stuart Guy took two wickets apiece. Sefton's reply never really got going and they were dismissed for 106 in the 38th over. James Cain top scored with 40 and David Baird made 20 but apart from that only Chris Bellis (11) made double figures.

The Second XI entertained Formby at Sefton Park, they won the toss and decided to bat. James Baird (52) and Dave Hort (57) put on 87 for the second wicket and Shah Wali (27) was next highest scorer as they declared on 199 for 9 in the 48th over. Formby's openers put on 34 but then wickets fell steadily with Peter Kelly taking 2 for 21 and Matty Pownall 2 for 23 and then James Sayer mopped up the tail by taking a remarkable 4 for 3 in 2.3 overs as Formby were dismissed for 100.

The Third XI made the trip to Liverpool to play their Third XI. The home side won the toss and put Sefton in to bat. This proved a good decision as Sefton were dismissed for 116. Liverpool lost two wickets in reaching the required total.

The Fourth XI had better fortune against Liverpool's Fourths on the Lower Ground. They put Liverpool in to bat and dismissed them for 130 with skipper Robin Surtees taking 4 for 10, Iwan Williams (2 for 22) and Mark Boyns (2 for 36) also contributed. Sefton won by seven wickets with Kevin Walton scoring 50 not out and Terry Cordner 35.

The Fifth's travelled to Southport to play their third XI. They won the toss and put the home side in to bat. Peter Hazlehurst took 6 for 27 and Mark Garnett 3 for 28 as Southport were dismissed for 132. It required a last wicket stand of 28 to steer Sefton to victory with George Lee top scoring with 29.

Sunday 28th June....Robbie Houghton hundred in win over Formby.

A Sefton side containing the four Kelly boys and two Bairds for good measure defeated Formby in the Business Assistance Knockout. Sefton batted first and an outstanding hundred by skipper Robbie Houghton (101) helped by Peter Kelly (32) and Ian Seabury (27) enabled them to reach 239 all out in the 45 overs. Formby were never up with the run rate and lost wickets steadily to eventuallyfinish on 171 all out in the 41st over. Phil Calrow took 3 for 25 and Robbie Houghton 2 for 15
