Saturday September 19th.....Season ends with defeat by Rainford

The First XI won the toss and batted first in their home game against Rainford. Sean Vandome scored 67 on his 16th birthday and finished as the leading Sefton Park run scorer in league game, a remarkable achievement. Dave Hort scored 54, acting skipper Paul Squires 54 not out and David Baird 37 not out as Sefton went on to declare on their highest total of the season with 242 for 5 in 55 overs. This did not prove sufficient as Rainford also lost 5 wickets in reaching the total in their 45th over. David Baird finished with 3 for 88.

The Second XI extended their winning run to four games with a win at Formby. They won the toss and decided to bat first, going on to score 177 in 40 overs. Raj Patel (32), Ted Williams (31) James Baird (25) and Peter Jones (22) scored the runs. In reply Matty Pownall took 3 for 41 and Stuart Guy 5 for 44 as Formby were dismissed for 155 in 38 overs.

The Third XI entertained Ormskirk on the Lower Ground. Sefton won the toss and asked the visitors to bat and saw them declare on 194 for 3. Sefton reached the total for the loss of 8 wickets Nick Moreton scored 67, Rich Jones 29, Zil Spilsbury 19 and there was a fine undefeated stand of 30 between Adam Taylor (20 not out) and Ali Khan for the ninth wicket which steered them home.

The Fourth XI finished their promotion season with a win at Southport. They were put in to bat and declared on 260 for 3. There was a fine century from new boy Julian James (118) who shared a stand of 150 with Jakob Surtees-Smith (58), Kev Walton scored 36 not out. In reply Southport were dismissed for 142 with Rob Kelly taking 2 for 27 and Iwan Williams 3 for 40.

The Fifth XI drew their game at Caldy against their Fourth XI. Caldy declared on 168 for 9 after being put in to bat. Jamie Bowman took 3 for 42 and Kevin Taylor 3 for 27. Sefton finished on 126 for 6 with Jamie Bowman (22 not out), Steve Squires (20) and Adam Flynn (25) being the top scorers.
