Darts - Sefton Super League Christmas Review

Thanks to Stuart Lomas for Christmas darts review :-

As the players of the Sefton Super League take a well-earned festive break, unbeaten champion Stuart "Killer" Lomas has moved to the top of the table despite three consecutive draws slowing his progress. A point behind is Robin "Geordie Express" Brown who has steamed up the table thanks to four back-to-back victories which included the only three figure outshot of the season. Two men sit a further point back with a game in hand: last season's runner-up Iwan "Top Cat" Williams and semi-finalist Simon Gozzard. Much improved 5th XI captain Jamie "Arrows" Bowman sits in 5th place and is tying with Chris Wylie with the quickest leg of the season; last season's fifth placed finisher "Mexican Prince" John Davies and newcomers "Gentleman" Jim Tyson and Chris "The Crab" Brereton are locked in a mid-table battle and currently make up the final places for the post-season quarter-finals. Below these Chris Wylie may have found his form too late; Terry Macklin has been dogged by inconsistency; Alum Ullah has games in hand whilst Paul Stairmand remains pointless having found the going tough in the top flight.

Two players remain unbeaten in the Sefton Plate Division but draws have been too prevalent for both Peter Kelly and Kevin Taylor so they are still only a point clear of pre-season favourite Steve "Dr Fun" Briggs in third. Surprise package Scott Isaac could go top if he wins his game in hand whilst Jonny Woodsmith is only behind him on leg difference. Much-fancied Mark "Der Kaiser" Boyns has struggled thus far and is now in a battle just to make the post-season quarter-finals as Dave Cunningham and the improving Jon Northcroft close in on him. Four men are still without league victories for the season in spite of some excellent if inconsistent darts; Paul Abbott, Jakob Surtees-Smith, Stephen Royston and Danny Wright will be hoping 2010 brings a change in fortune to enable them to close the gap to the top eight.

New to this year is "The FA Cup of Sefton Darts in association with BoynsbetTM" for all-comers. The draw for the last 16 has been made:

Stuart Lomas v Jakob Surtees-Smith
Kevin Taylor v Steve Briggs
R Surtees / T Macklin v Mark Boyns
Chris Wylie v Jon Northcroft
Julian Taylor v Jim Tyson
Alum Ullah v Simon Gozzard
Peter Kelly v Zyl Spilsbury
James Cain v Scott Isaac

The oche action returns to Sefton on Thursday 7 January for the remaining nine weeks of the regular season; come down to the club on Thursdays from 7pm onwards to check out the club's own tungsten titans, and keep up with all the results and news in the Arrow publication which can be found on the back notice-board in the pavilion.

Darts Challenge Report

Tuesday 15 December saw the Sefton Darts Challenge between the ladies team and members of the darts league. The result saw a victory for the men by a deceptive scoreline. In the subsequent mixed pairs Iwan and Sue claimed victory defeating Stuart and Lisa in the final. An excellent evening has led to a rematch already been pencilled in for Easter time.
