Saturday 1st May...Second XI through to Quarter Final of Chester Cup

The final week of the group stage of the Bridging Finance Knockout and Chester Cup finished with the SecondXI going through to the quarter finals of the Chester Cup and the First XI finishing second in the group behind Colwyn Bay.

The First XI visited Moorfield for the first time and were put in to bat. They lost quick wickets and found themselves on 51 for 4 but the in-form Raj Patel led a recovery with a score of 89, he was helped by Paul Squires (25) and Rob Houghton (20) as they finished on 200 all out in the 43rd over. In reply Moorfield made steady progress until skipper Rob Houghton came on to bowl, he took five of the last six wicket to finish with 5 for 22 in 8.1 overs. Moorfields were dismissed for 161 in 42.1 overs.

At Sefton Park, the Second XI faced Moorfield's seconds. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first going on to make a respectable 242 for 6 in 45 overs, Dave Kirby took 3 for 51 and James Sayer bowled a particularly economical spell conceding only 14 runs in his 9 overs. Sefton's reply started well with openers James Baird (35) and Richard Forsyth (54) scoring 80 for the first wicket. Peter Jones (73) kept the score going but late wickets fell to cause some problems before Ali Khan and Andy Foulder saw them home with 9 balls left and 7 wickets down. They now travel to Skelmersdale at the end of July for the quarter final tie.

The Fifth XI played Caldy's Fourth XI on the Lower Ground. They batted first and scored 210 for 4 declared in 47 overs. Mike Heaney (73), Steve Squires (44) and Paul Stairmand (56 not out) were the top scorers. Mark Garnett took 3 for 34 and Iwan Williams 2 for 35 in Caldys reply but the game was drawn as the visitors finished on 186 for 5.

The Third XI play their Embee Trophy game on Monday 3rd May at Orrell Red Triangle who knocked them out of the competition last year.
   

Monday 3rd May..Defeat for Third XI in Embee Trophy

For the second year running, the Third XI were knocked out of the Embee Trophy by Orrell Red Triangle.

Sefton batted first and were dismissed for 114 with Paul Eastham (24) and Vince Abel (22) being the top scorers. In reply, Sefton had the home side, Orrell, at 98 for 9 but could not take the final wicket. Rob Kelly took 2 for 11 in 8 overs, Vince Abel took 3 for 23 and Robin Surtees finished with 3 for 24.
