Saturday 18th September....Season finishes in the rain

Champions Leigh were the visitors to Sefton Park for the last game of the season. Sefton won the toss and decided to bat first. A stand of 68 for the 8th wicket between Phil Calrow (49) and Matty Lawless (33) helped them reach their all out total of 187 in the 52nd over. Rain then intervened and Leigh eventually started to bat with 50 minutes and 20 overs left. The umpires eventually ended the game in heavy rain with Leigh on 168 for 4 in 22 overs and 10 overs left. Matt Pownall took 3 for 56.

The Second XI travelled to New Brighton who need to win to become champions. Sefton won the toss and asked the home side to bat first, they went on to declare on 196 for 4 in 45 overs. In reply, Jonny Woodsmith scored 62 not out, Iain Squires 33, Peter Kelly 23, Dave Hort 22 and Paul Eastham 26 as Sefton reached the required total for the loss of 7 wickets in the 43rd over. Bootle defeated Lytham to become champions.

The Third XI entertained Birchfield Park on the Lower ground. Adam Brennan took 4 for 22 and Saj Khan 2 for 24 as the visitors were dismissed for 166 in the 45th over after being put in to bat. After playing a long time in the heavy rain, conditions became too difficult and the game ended with Sefton on 91 for 8, Adam Taylor scored 35.

A similar story in the Fifth XI game at Alder. The home side were put in to bat and declared on 105 for 9 in 41 overs with Matt Garnett taking 4 for 13. Sefton's innings finished on 69 for 4 with Danny Wright scoring 24 not out and Alex Miller 26.
