Sunday 9th September....One wicket defeat in Chester Cup Final

The Second XI put up and excellent performance but suffered a one wickets defeat to runaway league champions Bootle at Sefton Park. Deciding to bat first, they recovered from 67 for 5 to be dismissed for 150 in the 41st over. Ali Khan with 30 and Iain Squires 23 were the leading scorers.

In reply, Bootle made steady progress but when they lost wickets to go from 88 for 3 to 107 for 7, Sefton began to hope for a victory. A stand of 34 for the eighth wicket saw the visitors on 141 for 8, then the ninth wicket fell on 146. A nervous crowd saw Bootle hit a four to level the scores and then a single to complete their victory.
