Saturday 12th July...Rain ends vital relegation game

The First XI played Orrell Red Triangle at Sefton Park, hoping to get out of the bottom two with a game against the side immediately above them. Orrell won the toss and decided to bat first, Jerome Jones struck three times and David Baird twice to reduce the visitors to 58 for 5 after 20 overs. This was about as good as it got for Sefton who captured another wicket at 115 but after that Orrell reached tea at 154 for 6 in 50 overs. After breaks for rain Orrell declared on 188 for 6 in 58 overs leaving Sefton 10 minutes plus the final 20 overs to bat. They reached 46 for 3 in 15.2 overs before the game was finally called off with the rain returning. Jerome Jones scored 21.

The Second travelled to New Brighton where the home side won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 194 all out in 44.2 overs, Matt Ireland finished with 3 for 19 and Phil Calrow 2 for 34. In reply, there was no dramatic finish this week as Sefton finished 12 runs short on 182 in 38.1 overs. Top scorers were Phil Calrow (41), Matt Ireland (32), Fraser Hill (39) and Pete Ostler (28).

The Third XI visited Birchfield Park and asked the home side to bat first after they won the toss. They dismissed them after 61 overs for 140 with Rob Kelly taking 5 for 23 and Ben Rispin 3 for 37 in 18 overs. Sefton reached the required total for the loss of 5 wickets with Andy Dickinson scoring 62.

The Fourth XI played Birchfield Park's Seconds on the Lower Ground. Sefton won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. They scored 63 in 31.4 overs with Tim Gray taking 4 for 19, Joe Taylor 4 for 21 and skipper Chris Mitchell taking a remarkable 2 for 0 in 8 maiden overs. Sefton had no trouble in knocking off the required total with Matt Child scoring an undefeated 36 and Michael Row 19 in a nine wicket run.

The Fifth XI were away to Wavertree's Fourths. They decided to bat first after winning the toss but were dismissed for 101.Top scorers were Terry Macklin (21), J Bowman (15), Rob Kennedy (19) and Alan Fretwell (18). Wavertree lost 6 wickets in reaching the Sefton total with 4 wickets for Jamie Bowman and 2 for Danny Wright.
