Friday 3rd July....Defeat by Alder in Echo Knockout

Sefton were knocked out of the Echo knockout by Alder.

Sefton won the toss and asked Alder to bat first. They scored 135 for 5 in their 20 overs with Jonathan Drakes taking 2 for 24 and Joe Roddis 2 for 30. In reply Sefton lost four important wickets for 37 in 6 overs. Richie Conlan and Richie Forsyth then put on 71 for the fifth wicket and Sefton looked to be in a good position but when Richie Forsyth was dismissed for 29, no other batsman got off the mark. Richie Conlan was out for 48 as Sefton reached 130 all out in 19.3 overs, a score that was enhanced by 12 runs being added on for Alder's slow over rate


Saturday 4th July...Defeat by Liverpool

The First XI's poor form continued with a home defeat by local rivals Liverpool. Sefton won the toss and decided to bat first. They put on 37 for the first wicket, a stand that finished when Sean Vandome was dismissed for 8. The turning point of the innings came early when Adam Irwin, who looked in go form, was run out for 27 with the score on 39 for 2. Wickets then fell quickly with only Jonathan Drakes' 31 offering any resistance and when the ninth wicket fell on 93, it looked like a score of under one hundred again. However Joe Roddis (13) and Peter Kelly (18 not out) put on 31 for the last wicket. Sefton were dismissed for 124 in 34.3 overs.

Liverpool and no trouble in reaching the Sefton total on an excellent wicket with a fast outfield. They lost one wicket in reaching the total in 29.3 overs.

The young Second XI travelled to play Orrell Red Triangle. The batted first and raced to a declared total of 233 for 9 in 40 overs. Matt Ireland (60), Harry Deveney (56) and George Lee (39) were top scorers. Orrell did not look like winning the game but looked to have a good chance of a draw as they started the last twenty overs with only three wickets down. Austin Ventre then struck and claimed 4 wickets for 30, Joe Taylor took 3 for 15 to dismiss the home side for 140..

The Third XI visited Liverpool where Sefton won the toss and asked the home side to bat first. The scored 194 in 50 overs with Naj Ahmed taking 5 for 43. Neil Disley scored 50 in Sefton's reply but the could not prevent Liverpool from winning as Sefton were dismissed for 121 in 43.1 overs.

The Fourth XI played New Brighton's DC XI on the Lower Ground. New Brighton won the toss and decided to bat first. They declared on 219 for 7 in 40.5 overs with Chris Mitchell taking 4 for 53 in nearly 18 overs. Sefton were dismissed for 149 in 43.5 overs in reply with Pete Lancaster scoring 30 and Chris Mitchell 43.

And now for some good news!!. The Fifth XI achieved their first win of the season. They played Caldy's Fourths at the Liverpool College ground. Caldy won the toss and decided to bat first. Peter Buckman finished with 4 for 18, Jamie Bowman 3 for 65 and David Rand 3 for 34 to dismiss Caldy for 140 in 44.5 overs. Sefton lost 4 wickets in 30 overs in reaching the total. David Rand scored 51, Awais Mohammed 26 and Alan Fretwell 23.
