Saturday 25th July....Victory over Wigan

The First XI ended their run of poor results with a victory over Wigan. Skipper Richie Forsyth won the toss for Sefton and asked Wigan to bat first. The visitors were soon in trouble at 14 for 3, then recovered but were again struggling at 107 for 7. Stands of 33 for the eighth wicket and 40 for the ninth wicket enabled them to finish on a respectable score of 182 all out in 48.1 overs. Jonathan Drakes was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5 for 56, Matt Pownall took 2 for 36 and Peter Kelly 2 for 38. Sefton's reply started well with an opening stand of 40 between Adam Irwin and Dave Hort but when the second and third wickets fell in consecutive balls with the score on 72, the crowd became nervous. With Adam Irwin going well, he was joined by Jonathan Drakes, they went on to steer Sefton home without another wicket falling. Adam finished on 83 not out in 104 balls and Jonathan scored 69 not out in 69 balls.

Sefton now move out of the bottom two and hope that this game was the start of a good run of results.

Sefton lost the wickets of Michael Row (10) and Mike Lowe (21) but then an undefeated stand between Pete Ostler who scored 102 not out in 101 balls and Matt Ireland who took 29 balls for his 38 not out steered them to an eight wicket victory in 4.2 overs.

The Third XI visited Northern to play their Third XI, won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 166 for 9 declared in 51.1 overs. Jonathan Hague scored 28, Neil Disley 36, Saul Nagus 20, and Ted Williams 27 not out. Northern reached the Sefton total for the loss of only two wickets in the 44th over.
