Saturday 6th August....Defeat by Southport

Apart from a Fourth XI victory at Maghull, it was not the best of days for Sefton Park sides.

At Sefton Park, the First XI welcomed Southport and Birkdale. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first. They struggled at 23 for 2 but recovered to 89 for 3 after which, wickets fell regularly and they were dismissed for 154 in in 53.1 overs. Peter Kelly was the top bowler with 6 for 50.

Sefton's reply began steadily as they reached 15 before the first wicket fell but then, the innings fell apart and at 18 for 6, everyone wondered what they going to be dismissed for. However 15 runs from Daniel Kelly helped take the score to the all out total of 51 in the 26th over.

The Second XI travelled to Southport, won the toss and decided to bat first. Richie Conlan scored 63 off 39 balls and Mark Chappell 42 in their total of 164 all out in 28.1 overs. This gave Southport a lot of time to reach the Sefton total and they did so for the loss of 2 wickets in the 46th over.

The Third XI played New Brighton's CJ XI on the Lower Ground and decided to bat first after winning the toss. After a poor start Mike Lowe scored 60 which enabled them to reach 146 in 44 overs. Saul Nagus (26) and Pete Lancaster (19) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. Like the Second XI, New Brighton lost just 2 wickets in passing the Sefton total.

The Fourth XI gave us the only good news of the day. They were away to Maghull's Fourths, won the toss and decided to bat first. Chris Read (54), Ollie Henry (25), Rob Kennedy (22) and Freddie Frost (20) were top scorers in their total of 165 in 44.3 overs. In reply, Pete Elliot took 4 for 14, Jamie Turner 2 for 26 and Chris Mitchell 2 for 4 to dismiss Maghull for 53 in the 23rd over.

The Fourth XI played Goodlass's First XI at the Liverpool College ground. Asked to bat first, Goodlass made 276 for 3 in 35 overs. Special praise went to Michael Orme who took two excellent catches. Sefton were dismissed for 65 in 35 overs in reply with Phil Foster top scoring with 13.
