In
reply, despite good efforts by Vin Mane (28) and Ian Fielding (23) no one was
able to stay long enough with skipper Paul Horton who finished on 99 not out
as Sefton reached 197 for 8
Saturday 12th July......Honours even in top
of the table battle.
The match at Sefton Park between the 1stXI who are in third place and second
place Fleetwood Hesketh produced a hard fought draw. Fleetwood were put into
bat and made a brisk start and looked in a strong position when the second wicket
fell at 103. This was to be the first of five quick wickets and it was Sefton
who then looked to have the upper hand. Following last weeks performance by
Jimmy Adams, Sefton Park followers are well aware of the damage that can be
caused by an overseas player and so were not too surprised to see Abey Kuruvilla
coming in at number eight and hitting 100 not out to enable Fleetwood to declare
at 226 for 9.
The other three teams to play suffered disappointing defeats again.
The 2ndXI travelled to Leigh and declared on 197 for 8 with Paul Squires
(67) and Andy Bailey (36) top scoring. Leigh reached the total in the last
over for the loss of 7 wickets.
Nev Bann's 3NBXI travelled to Southport. The home team batted first and scored
173 for 9 with Chris Saunders taking 3 for 11. In reply Sefton park were dismissed
for 119 with Nev Bann (29) and Manesh Agarwal (25) top scoring.
The 3RSXI came up against a strong Bootle XI who declared on 200 for 6 with
Peter Kelly taking 3 for 62, and in reply were dismissed for 160, Robin Surtess
(27) Mo Khan (22) and Stuart Marshall-Clarke (25not out) having the best performances.
