23rd April....Cricket Starts

After last week's false start due to rain, Sefton Park's cricket season got under way with the 1stXI achieving an 8 run victory at Northop Hall in the Premier League Knockout.

Put into bat, they reached 209 for 6 with Paul Horton (63), Ben Moore (53) and Phil Disley (21) top scoring. In reply Northop Hall made 201 for 3 in their 45 overs.

Howie Baird scored 60 as the 2ndXI reached 147 for 8 in their Premier League KO game against Liverpool. A number of dropped catches did not help as Liverpool reached 148 for 4 in 33.2 overs in reply. David and Howie Baird

On the Lower Ground Howie's son David had a better result. Sefton Park's 4thXI played Southport's 3rdXI. Sefton won the toss and new skipper Robin Surtees elected to bat. The side were struggling at 45 for 5 when David went into bat. In Robin's words he steadied the ship and went on to make 54 in Sefton's total of 125. In reply Southport were dismissed for 24 with Brian Viner taking 4 for 24. Pictured right is Southport's Ron Gamble being bowled by Brian in his first over
