Saturday 21st May......More Rain

The wait for the "long hot days of summer" continued as we again suffered from games ruined by rain.

The 1st XI were at home to Ormskirk. They won the toss and put the visitors in to bat only for the rain to intervene for the day after Ormskirk scored 113 for 8 wickets. Dave Poskitt (3 for 14) and Stuart Wade (3 for 15) were the main wicket takers.

The 2ndXI batted first in their game at Huyton with Adam Rowland (57), Howie Baird (51) and Ted Williams (40 not out) being the main run getters as Sefton reached 177 for 5 declared in 48 overs. Huyton were unable to start their innings.

Andy Battersby scored 118 not out and Phil Calrow 86 for the 3rdXI in their game against Ormskirk on the Lower Ground. Sefton Park finished on 244 for 1 with Phil Heath (25 not out) being the other contributor before the rain intervened.

Weekend 14th/15th May.....Defeat for 1stXI at New Brighton.

The 1st XI suffered another defeat after scoring 250 at New Brighton. The home team won the toss and put Sefton in to bat and the visitors scored 250 for the loss of 8 wickets with Paul Horton making 63 and John Jackson scoring 53 in 60 Overs. New Brighton reached the required score with 5 balls remaining for the loss of 7 wickets. Stuart Wade bowled 17 overs and took 4 for 65.

Sefton batted first and scored 189 for 7 with Howie Baird made 49 and John Armstrong 58 not out. In reply the visitors made 148 for 7.

On the Lower Ground, the 3rdXI had a comfortable win over Birchfield Park. The visitors batted first and made 154 all out with Kev Neil taking 4 for 18 and Peter Hazlehurst 3 for 24. In reply Andy Battersby scored 95 not out as Sefton Park lost 6 wickets in reaching the required total.

The 4th XI drew their away game at New Brighton. Sefton batted first and scored 215 for 3 in 40 overs with Kev Walton (71), Scott Isaac (66) and Gareth Cowley (46) top scoring. In reply New Brighton reached 164 for in 56 overs with Brian Viner taking 3 for 58.

There was an excellent performance from Peter Hazlehurst's SundayXI playing Southport at home. Southport made 175 with Ian Kelly taking 3 for 43. In reply Phil Heath scored 108 not out and Scott Isaac made his second 50 of the weekend with 58 not out as they put on 178 together in a remarkable opening partnership in a ten wicket win.
