Saturday 20th August..............Defeat at home to Northern

Top of the table Northern visited Sefton Park and gained a convincing victory. Sefton won the toss and put the visitors in to bat. They made 231 for 8 declared in 48 overs with Ramesh Powar taking 3 for 72. In reply Sefton always struggled and were dismissed for 70 with only Peter Jones (18), Paul Horton (14) and Howie Baird (13) reaching double figures.

The 2ndXI visited Wallasey where they won the toss and put the home team in to bat. Wallasey made 234 for 4 declared in 45 overs with Mark Forster taking 3 for 51. In reply, skipper Steve Delve led the run chase and was dismissed on 95 going for a six when Sefton required 20 in the last two overs. In the end they drew the game finishing 4 runs short of the Wallasey total with 7 wickets down. John Armstrong (39) and Mark Forster (39) were the other major run makers.

The 3rdXI visited Southport and on a difficult wicket dismissed the home team for 93. David Baird (4 for 21) and Brian Viner (3 for 22) were the pick of the bowlers. In reply they lost 7 wickets in passing the Southport total with skipper Terry Cordner making 38 not out.

The 4thXI played Ormskirk on the Lower Ground. The visitors batted first and made 182 for 8 declared with Gareth Cowley (5 for 45) and Ian Seabury (3 for 72) taking the wickets. In reply the same two players made the biggest contributions with the bat with Ian making 59 and Gareth 48 as Sefton won by 5 wickets.

Saturday 13th August...........1stXI draw at Leigh on rainy day.

The 1st XI visited Leigh and batted first in a late start because of rain. They made 172 for 7 declared in 37 overs with Robbie Houghton making 70, Ramesh Powar 45 and Chris Hart 23 not out. In reply Leigh made 138 for 8 in 21 overs with Robbie Houghton completing a fine all round match by taking 4 for 27.

On the Lower Ground the league game between the 3rdXI and the 4thXI started but was rained off with the 3rdXI having scored 122 for 2 with Phil Heath (44 not out) and Scott Isaac (36) being the top scorers.
