Saturday 17th September.....Dave Poskitt is hero in last over victory over Fleetwood Hesketh.

Fleetwood Hesketh were the 1stXI visitors on the last day of the season. Sefton were put in to bat and scored 186 in 58.3 overs with Paul Horton scoring 73. Matthew Phythian (28) and Robbie Houghton (28) made valuable contributions.

In reply the visitors arrived at the 44th, and last, over requiring 10 to win with two wickets left and their star man, David Bernard, on 80. Dave Poskitt was bowling and conceded four off the first ball. The second ball resulted in Bernard being bowled and the third ball saw a similar fate for the last man as Sefton recorded a 5 run victory.

There was no such excitement for the 2ndXI who visited Formby and saw the home side make 189 all out in 60 overs with Ted Williams taking 4 for 12 in 10 overs. In reply Sefton reached 119 for 7 with Dave Hort (30), Gaz Cowley (28) and Ted Williams (20) top scoring as the game reached a draw.

The 3rdXI lost any chase of winning their league with a defeat at Maghull. Sefton batted first and scored 190 for 6 declared with Phil Heath (73) and Ian Seabury (43) making the runs. In reply Maghull lost only 2 wickets in reaching the Sefton total.

The 4th XI required four points at Birchfield Park to avoid any chance of relegation but thanks to an outstanding performance from Matthew Pownall did much better than this. He took 5 for 8 as Birchfield Park were dismissed for 118, Naj Ahmed took 3 for 27. In reply Geoff Baird scored 49 and Scott Isaac 28 as Sefton went on to win by 5 wickets.
