29th July......7 Wickets for Robbie Houghton as 1stXI draw.

Lytham were the visitors to Sefton Park for the 1st XI game. Sefton batted first after losing the toss and reached 218 for 6 declared in 55 overs following a number of interruptions for rain. Paul Horton scored 84, Chris Bellis 49 and Ben Moore 39. In reply Lytham looked at one time to be in a strong position but in the end it was only missed chances in the field that prevented Sefton from gaining a victory as Lytham finished on 202 for 8 with Robbie Houghton taking 7 for 78.

The 2nd XI visited Wigan and were reduced to 10 men following an injury to Ian Seabury. Sefton batted first and were all out for 143 with Max Hill (39) and Paul Squires (28) top scoring. In reply the home side lost 4 wickets in reaching the required total. Dave Finch took 3 for 13.

The 3rdXI visited Wallasey and reached 259 for 5 after being put in to bat. Matt Childs scored 83 and Rick Anderson 71. In reply Wallasey made 207 for 7 with Mohammed Nawab taking 6 for 44.

The 4thXI recorded another victory on the Lower Ground against Northern 4thXI. Northern batted first and were dismissed for 90. Pama Singh took 3 for 23, Jamie Rock 2 for 26, Naj Ahmed 2 for 21 and Mark Garnett bowling his first overs for the Club took 1 for 6 in his 4 overs. In reply Sefton lost 2 wickets in reaching the total and all the batsmen made contributions. Harry Moore made 38, Vince Abel 18 not out, Tom Robertson 15 and Maadhav Kathari 12 not out.

Sunday 30th July.....Dave Hort scores Hundred in 2ndXI defeat

Dave Hort scored 102 and Paul Squires 87 not out as Sefton reached 226 for 5 declared in 45 overs in their League game at Northern. They produced an opening stand of 188 but all this proved insufficient as the home side reached the required total for the loss of 4 wickets.

5th August.....Defeat at Maghull leaves 1stXI at Bottom of League

The 1st XI travelled to Maghull without Brendan Taylor, still in Zimbabwe, and Paul Horton. Sefton won the toss, put Maghull in to bat and saw them score 220 for 7 declared in 46 overs with Dave Poskitt taking 4 for 43. In reply Ben Moore passed 500 league runs for the season in his score of 47 but Robbie Houghton was the only other player to reach double figures, scoring 23, as Sefton were dismissed for 99 in 32 overs. So with 7 games left, they find themselves at the bottom of the league.

Formby were the visitors to Sefton Park to play the 2ndXI and after being put in to bat were soon in difficulties on 40 for 5 and 67 for 7 but in the end they went on to reach 189 for 8 in 51 overs. Brian Viner was promoted from the 3rdXI and came up with the best bowling figures of the game taking 6 for 29. In reply Rhys Jowett made 35 and Matt Childs (22), James Pearce (22) and John Davies (23) all made contributions but in the end Sefton were left with Matty Pownall facing the last few balls as they hung on for a draw, finishing on 139 for 9 on 40 overs.

The 3rdXI visited Ormskirk, won the toss and put the home side in to bat and saw them score 201 for 6 declared with Graham Cashin taking 2 for 31 and Sam Gainer 2 for 55. In reply Rick Anderson scored 86 and David Walton 31 but this was not enough as they were dismissed for 192 as they lost a good game by 9 runs.

The 4thXI drew their game with Wallasey on the Lower Ground. Wallasey batted first and scored 182 for 8 declared with Andy Foulder taking 3 for 50. In reply Sefton finished on 152 for 9 with Vince Abel scoring 45. Special mention again goes to some young schoolboys who are putting in some fine performances. This week Tom Crawley took 1 for 30 and Michael Teiman bowled 4 overs for 6 runs and then scored 13.

Good to see Andy Foulder back bowling for the 4thXI where he took 3 for 50
