2nd September.....More Rain

For the second time in a fortnight all the Sefton Park games were rained off. This means that, with two games to play, the 1stXI are 20 points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table.

The remaining games are against Northern at home next week and at New Brighton the week after.

Also, next week, we have a 3rdXI against 4tXI game on the Lower Ground

Saturday 9th September.....Relegation

The 1stXI were relegated after 3 years in the Premier Division following a home defeat by Northern. They won the toss, put the visitors in to bat and saw them make 258 for 5 declared in 46 overs. Mark Forster took 2 for 46.

In reply, Sefton were at one time 21 for 6 and a partnership of 62 between Paul Squires (35) and Stuart Wade (46) for the seventh wicket enabled them to reach 116 all out in 40 overs with Stuart being the last man out going for his 50.

A fine all round performance by Phil Calrow was the highlight of the 2ndXI's visit to New Brighton, he scored 50 and then took 6 for 16. Sefton won the toss and decided to bat, going on to reach 175 in 38 with Matt Childs (28) and Matty Pownall (22) also contributing. In reply the home side were dismissed for 129 in 43 overs.

On the Lower Ground the 3rdXI played the 4thXI and victory for the 3rdXI meant that the 4thXI remain at the bottom of the table. The thirds batted first after winning the toss and went on to score 201 for 6 with Paul Hegarty making 82 not out and Stuart Marshall-Clarke 58. Vince Abel took 5 for 40 and then went on to score 61 in the 4thXI total of 187 all out. Ian Kelly (49) and Tom Baird (21) were the other top scorers and Robin Brown took 3 for 23 for the thirds.
