Saturday 16th September......Best Day of Season for Sefton Park Teams

There was a feeling that the season should have just started as the Sefton Park teams gained 3 wins and a draw.

The 1stXI visited New Brighton, won the toss and decided to bat, going on to score 207 all out in 50 overs. Top scores were made by Paul Squires who finished on 49 not out, Ben Moore (46) and Dave Poskitt (26). Phil Calrow took 3 for 49 and there were 2 wickets apiece for Dave Poskitt, Mark Forster and Stuart Wade as New Brighton were dismissed for 164 in 40 overs fror a 43 run victory.

The 1stXI have bowled four sides this season and they have resulted in the four victories achieved.

The 2ndXI played a Bootle side, at Sefton Park, which had already won the League and remained undefeated all season. The visitors batted first and declared on 197 for 6 with Dave Kirby taking 3 for 22. In reply Sefton did not look like winning until Steve Delve (61 not out) and Matty Pownall (52 not out) put on an udefeated 110 for the eighth wicket. This is Matty's first half century for the 2ndXI.

This victory meant that the young 2ndXI moved up three places in the table to finish an excellent fifth.

The 3rdXI visited Southport, won the toss and decided to bat. Rick Anderson (67) and Dave Walton (48 not out) top scored as they reached 173 all out. In reply the home reached 170 for 5 for an exciting draw. Acting skipper Kev Walton said that it was an excellent game of cricket.

The 4thXI, who had already been relegated, played on the Lower Ground against Ormskirk's 3rdXI. The visitors batted first and scored 151 for 9 declared. Stuart Marshall-Clarke gave up the wicket keeping gloves for this game and ended up with bowling figures of 4 for 32, Pama Singh took 2 for 41. In reply Sefton lost 7 wickets in reaching the required total. Vince Abel (44) and Terry Cordner (40) made the biggest contributions with the bat.
