Saturday 14th April...Start of Season

The 1stXI started the season with a disappointing home defeat by Ainsdale. They won the toss and put the visitors in to bat and went on to dismiss them for 102. Dave Poskitt took 4 for 30 and David Baird 3 for 21.

In reply, the low score always looked reachable but wickets fell quickly and in the end they were 10 runs short of the required target. Graham Cashin top scored with 26. Ben Moore (13), Chris Bellis (10), David Baird (10) and Dave Poskitt (10 not out) were the only ones to reach double figures.

The 2ndXI had a good win at Southport where the home side won the toss and elected to bat, going on to reach 151. Peter Kelly's return to Sefton Park saw him take 6 for 50, Phil Calrow took 2 for 25. In reply John Davies (42), Mike Jackson (41) and Steve Delve (21) top scored as Sefton reached the required total for the loss of 5 wickets in the 35th over.

The 4thXI drew their home game against Ormskirk's third XI.

Ormskirk batted first and reached 203 for 5 declared with V Abel (2 for 45) and Stuart Lomas (2 for 8) being the pick of the bowlers.

In reply Sefton reached 160 for 8 with debutant Ollie Shears scoring 50 not out and Nev Bann and Kev Walton putting on a 50 partnership, scoring 28 apiece.

Acting skipper Robin Brown described it as "a good fighting performance with contributions from all the team".

Saturday 21stApril....Defeat at Orrell Red Triangle

Skipper Ben Moore took a lot more from Sefton Park's second defeat of the season. at Orrell Red Triangle. They were put in to bat and went on to score 198 for 4 declared with Ben top scoring with 69. Matty Phythian (48), John Jackson (29 not out) and Robbie Houghton (24 not out) all made valuable contributions. In reply the visitors reached 122 for the loss of one wicket but the return of Dave Poskitt (5 for 60) left the home side requiring four run from the last wicket which they achieved. Robbie Houghton took 2 for 48.

The good news for the day came from the 2ndXI at Sefton Park who won their second game of the season. They were put in to bat and at one point were 21 for 4 but a stand of 86 between Phil Calrow (41) and Matty Pownall (56) put them in a better position. A last wicket partnership of 20 between Dave Kirby and Dave Finch enabled them to reach 161 in 53 overs. Things were to get better for the two Daves as their bowling partnership enabled the home side to dismiss the visitors for 99, Dave Kirby finished with 4 for 44 and Dave Finch 3 for 30.

The 3rd XI were beaten by 6 wickets in their game against New Brighton JW on the Lower Ground. Top scores came from Matt Child (32) and Stuart Marshall-Clarke (23) in their score 140 all out. In reply the visitors lost 4 wickets in reaching the score with James Sayer taking two wickets.

The 4thXI visited Liverpool to play their 3rdXI and were dismissed for 175 with Kev Walton making 28 and Terry Corner 23. In reply the home side lost two wickets in reaching the total.
