Saturday 28th April....Draw with Wavertree
The 1stXI drew their home game against Wavertree. Sefton won the toss and
decided to bat but found themselves at 74 for 6. A stand of 59 between Paul
Squires (48) and John Jackson (33) and some hard hitting by Dave Poskitt (46
not out) enabled then to reach 199 for 8. In reply the visitors reached 169
for 5 in 42 overs with Dave Poskitt and Robbie Houghton taking 2 wickets apiece. |

The 2nd XI visited Huyton and suffered their first defeat of the season.
They were put in to bat and were dismissed for 95 in the 33rd over. Skipper
Max Hill made 27 and Mike Jackson 31. In reply the home side lost 7 wicket
in reaching the Sefton total with Matty Pownall taking 4 for 28.
The 3rdXI visited Northern to play their 3rd XI and gained a draw. The home
side batted first and scored 198 for 8. James Sayer (3 for 30) and James Pearce
(2 for 40) were the pick of the bowlers. In reply Sefton reached 150 for 8
with James Woodsmith (40) and Stuart Marshall-Clarke (32) top scoring.
On the Lower Ground the 4thXI were defeated by New Brighton PD. The visitors
batted first and scored 192 for 6 with skipper Robin Surtees taking 4 for
34. In reply Sefton were dismissed for 95 with Jacob Surtees-Smith scoring
30 and Robin Brown 18 |

Sunday 29th April....Defeat in Cockspur Cup
The 1stXI suffered a narrow 1 wicket defeat at Leyland in the Cockspur Cup
(National KO). They reached 150 for 9 in the 45 overs with Matty Phythian
(33) and Ben Moore (23) top scoring. In reply Leyland reached the total in
the 44th over. David Baird took 2 for 30 and Peter Kelly 2 for 29

Saturday 5th May...Three teams enjoy first victory
The Bank Holiday weekend began well for the Sefton Park sides as three of
them enjoyed their first victory of the season.
The 1stXI travelled to Rainhill, won the toss, and decided to bat. They went
on to score 239 for 9 in 55 overs. Chris Bellis (60), Robbie Houghton (41),
Ben Moore (36) and John Jackson (35) top scored. In reply the home side were
dismissed for 170 with Dave Poskitt (3 for 37), Graham Cashin (3 for 39),
Dave Finch (2 for 26) and Robbie Houghton (2 for 41) taking the wickets. A
fine all round performance for their first win of the season.
The only disappointment of the day came from the visit of Colwyn Bay to Sefton
Park to play the 2ndXI. Colwyn Bay won the toss, decided to bat, and declared
on 217 for 4. In reply Sefton opened with a half century stand between Peter
Jones (28) and Steve Delve (28) but then wickets began to fall and only John
Davies (31) offered major resistance as they dismissed for 145.

The 3rdXI defeated St Helens Recs on the Lower Ground. The visitors batted
first and were dismissed for 112 with Tom Baird taking 4 for 13. In reply
Sefton lost only one wicket in reaching the required total with Matt Child
(37 not out) and Ollie Shears (33 not out) making the runs.
The 4thXI were the third team to get off the mark for the season with a victory
at Northern against their 4thXI. Northern won the toss and elected to bat.
They were dismissed for 148 in 41 overs with Robin Brown taking 5 for 41 and
Pamma Singh 2 for 22. Sefton went on to win off the penultimate ball after
losing 8 wicket in a tense finish. Fifteen year old Jakob Surtees-Smith scored
his first senior 50, going on to score 62. Terry Cordner (22) was the next
highest scorer in a game that skipper Robin Surtees described as " a
great win for Sefton in which all eleven players contributed".
