LDCC Treble winners Sefton Park women earn victory over Wavertree to finish the season as Invincibles
Sefton Park Women’s completed their inaugural hardball season as Invincibles with a 100% win record in the LDCC Women’s leagues following an 8 wicket victory over Wavertree. The match featured a new look side led by Frankie Morris, alongside hardball debutants Rachael Biggs, Kara Deary and Amani Riz. In a low scoring thriller, Sefton Park restricted Wavertree to 63/3 off their 20 overs, with one wicket each for Amani Riz, Emma Arnold and Zoe Manning. In a rain interrupted match, Sefton Park scored the required 64 runs off exactly 10 overs, with Aaishah Amjad unbeaten on 36 off 29 balls, and a tidy 9 off 19 from Rachel Farmer.
Unfortunately the final league match of the women’s season (softball pairs vs Hightown St Mary’s) was abandoned without a ball being bowled. This brought the curtain down on a highly successful season for Sefton Park women’s, as the LDCC treble winners bring the Softball Pairs, Hardball Pairs and T20 league trophies back to Croxteth Drive.
Hardball captain, Sarah John said “it has been a fantastic season of Hardball cricket, renewing rivalries across the LDCC teams. I am very proud of winning both leagues and all the experience we have gained which will stand us in good stead for next year’s challenges. We have been victorious and had a fantastic time doing so- cricket really is the winner”.
Softball Captain Ciara O’Connor said “the softball season has been a huge success and we are so delighted to win the league title and to also be Invincibles is even better. We have seen so many new players compete in their first ever cricket matches and to see them achieve so much enjoyment and success is what this group of amazing women is all about. Roll on next season!”
