Sunday 23rd June - Second XI beat Ormskirk on busy day for club

Sefton Park Cricket Club

Sefton Park Second XI made it a 50 point weekend - and moved into the top half of the table - after squeezing home by two wickets against Ormskirk.

Having won the toss and batted, Ormskirk posted 113 with Jack Lavery taking 3-36, Tom Spilsbury 3-27 and Niamat Karyab 2-25 - plus two run outs from Kaash Patel.

Kaash scored 26 at the top of the order but Sefton failed to put on 20 for any wicket and found themselves 98-8 when Matt Young's vigil was ended by Nicky Caunce (4-30) - but Lavery and Sarhad Rustom saw Sefton home for a vital win.

There was plenty of drama down on the lower pitch where Sefton Park 3rd XI took on Superkings in the Mike Leddy Cup.

Batting first, Rajiv Bhardwaj (44), Jack Clements (43), Chris Slater (26) and Mark Boyns (20) all put runs on the board as the hosts were all out for 227 off 39 overs.

Mark was then the pick of the bowlers with 3-42 off his eight overs as the visitors were left needing more than 20 runs with one wicket remaining to seal the win which they did with 11 balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, the Women's Second XI hosted Bootle in the Women's T20 League. Emma Arnold hit an unbeaten 54 as Sefton reached 100-3. The visitors reached the target in the 19th over for the loss of three wickets.

In the Liverpool Competition Junior League, Sefton Park Under 11s Green faced Wavertree Under 11s Black. Wavertree were restricted to 80-9 (net score: 235) with Haris Zahid taking 3-10. Sefton went on to claim a 76 run victory as they closed on 126-3 (net score: 311). Rai Salik Ahmad top scored with an unbeaten 14.
