The Second XI gained their first win of the season, beating Wigan by nine wickets in the Chester Cup.
Sarhad Rustom took 4-37 and Andrew Aitchison 2-21 as Wigan posted 135 all out - opener Zane Nirodi carried his bat for 71* but was the only one to make double figures.
Sefton openers Luke Connolly (56) and Jeremy Rogers (51*) put on 104 for the first wicket to break the back of the chase as the hosts reached the total in the 26th over.
Sefton will play Northern at home in the second round.
On the lower ground Sefton Sunday JW XI were forced to settle for a draw in a shortened game against Northern due to the early evening rain.
Sefton posted 202-8d in 38.5 overs with Chris Mitchell's 54 the biggest contribution and valuable runs from Mike Lowe (33), James Whittaker (30) and Mark Boyns (20no).
Northern reached 160-5 from 30 overs in reply with the game nicely poised. Jack Clements took 2-47.
Sunday XI AW were due to travel to Whitefield but the game was abandoned.
