The First XI welcomed Hightown St Marys to Sefton Park with the visitors needing a win to help them avoid relegation.

The visitors won the toss and decided to field first.

Sefton were soon struggling at 31 for 3. There followed a stand of 51 for the fourth wicket between Matt Young (38) and Paul Horton who went on to score 21. Of the last six batters, only Adam Taylor reached double figures (12) as Sefton were dismissed for 122 in 52.3 overs.

In reply Hightown fell to 47 for 6 but recovered to 99 for 9. The last two remaining batters took the score to 6 runs short as we entered the last over. A single and a four were scored and when it looked like Hightown would win Huzaifa Zubair took the last wicket.

Huzaifa finished with 3 for 40, Jimmy Dixon 4 for 18 and Tom Spilsbury 2 for 29.

So as finish the season next week, the Firsts are sixth in the table. Colwyn Bay have finished top of the table and either Southport and Birkdale or Sefton's opponents next Birkenhead Park will be promoted. Hightown St Marys have been relegated, probably with Ainsdale.
