Wednesday, April 19 2023 was a significant day for SPCC, as Sefton Park Women players Aaishah Amjad, Amazi Riz and their families hosted the club's first ever Ramadan Iftar.
Over 40 people came together to celebrate Ramadan from across the women's and open sections, as well as representatives from the management committee.
Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with Muslim people gathering to break their fast together. The meal is taken just after the call to the Maghrib prayer, which is around sunset.
Host Aaishah shared the importance of the religious ritual of fasting at Ramadan, with some of the women's team fasting that day to gain understanding, especially the impact on players on match days. There was also a quiz to encourage more awareness before the call to prayer was heard on the Croxteth Drive pitch, with the guests then enjoying a delicious and fantastic meal.
Amani was delighted with the success of the event.
She said: "It was our pleasure to share the evening with so many members of Sefton Park Cricket Cub. Thank you to everyone who joined us".
Aaishah agreed. "We were honestly humbled to see the turnout and commitment," she added. "It was a lovely evening and we are to blessed to share this with our amazing Sefton family."
All those participating would like to thank Aaishah, Amani and their family and friends for all the kindness and generosity in organising such a wonderful and memorable evening.
