Sunday 27th July - 1st XI win through to Ray Tyler Cup Final

Sefton Park's 1st XI are through to the Ray Tyler Cup Final for the third time in four seasons after a convincing win at Maghull.

Haroon Khan (51) dominated an opening stand of 75 before the engine room of Scott Aitchison (58), Raj Bhardwaj (39) and Huzaifa Zubair (42) enabled Sefton to post 259-9 from their 45 overs.

Maghull's openers put on 31 but after that Sefton's seamers had their way - Jimmy Dixon (2-28) before Zubair (3-20) and Daksh Singhvi (4-12) saw them bowled out for 92.

Sefton will now play Spring View in the final after their bowlers ran through Old Xaverians this afternoon.

Skipper Dave Kelly starred as Sefton 2nd XI won at Rainford. He took 6-41 and Robin Brown 2-24 to bowl out Rainford for 174 in 34.1 overs.

There was still plenty to do when Kelly walked in to bat at 117-6 but he scored 21* to assist Sam Parkinson (46*) as Sefton reached the target without further loss. Alex Woods (35) and Tom Rushton (29) shared a good third wicket partnership; former Sefton man Tom Spilsbury took 4-61 for the hosts.

Sefton 2nd XI are now second in the table, three points behind leaders Wallasey, with a massive August in prospect.


Sefton Sunday RBXI won at New Brighton. Harry Wright's 49 anchored the first part of the innings before Charles Daniels (35*) and promising junior Seb Wheatcroft (19*) put on an unbroken 47 for the tenth wicket to enable a declaration at 193-9 from 45 overs.

Wheatcroft (3-35) then took the first two wickets and there were two wickets each for Matt Darbon (2-11), Andy Fallows (2-40) and Angus Blenkenstein (2-13) as New Brighton were bowled out for 168 in 30.5 overs.


Sefton Women were the only losers on the day. Having bowled out Leyland for 110 (Eleanor Cantwell 3-17, Abbie Wright 2-23, Lucy Brooks 2-32, Apoorva Aji 3-8) they were themselves bundled out for just 42.
