Sunday, July 30th - More rain but women complete softball triumph

The Sunday teams have been incredibly unlucky over the last month or so with the weather and the trend continued over the weekend with more rain spoiling decent starts from both sides.

Winning the toss and electing to field against Spring View, Pete Elliott's XI soon had the opposition in trouble with Chris Mitchell's 5-58 off 21 overs helping dismiss the visitors for 139 off 42.1 overs. Sadly the teams were unable to get back on the field to see how Pete's side would have done chasing the target.

Phil McLoughlin's XI travelled to Bootle, won the toss and elected to bat. Phil (20) and Chris Slater (36) put on 56 for the opening wicket before Jack Clements (63no) and Tom Rooney (39no) compiled an unbeaten stand of 93 for the fifth wicket enabling Phil to declare on 188-4 off 25 overs. The hosts were 53-2 off seven overs when the game was abandoned.

There was better news in the morning with Sefton Park Women's Softball team going top of the league with a win over Irby. Kara Deary top scored with 13.
