A well attended senior players meeting at the club this week resulted in Sefton Park's senior captains being confirmed for the 2026 season.
Club captain: Paul Horton
Paul made his 1st XI debut in 2001. He was quickly picked up by the Lancashire youth set-up, captaining their Under 17 and Under 19 teams before becoming Sefton club captain for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He passed 1,000 league runs for Sefton in 2003 and in 2005 broke the L&DCC league record for the first wicket with Ben Moore when they put on 240 against Leigh. Paul, who continued to play for Sefton when availability allowed, became vice-captain at Lancashire in 2014 but left at the end of the 2015 season to join Leicestershire whom he captained for two seasons in 2018 and 2019. He announced his retirement from professional cricket in 2020 and returned to Croxteth Drive for a second spell as captain in 2022. In 2025 he led the 1st XI to victory in the Ray Tyler Cup.

2nd XI captain: Tom Rushton
Tom takes on the captaincy of the 2nd XI after enjoying a stellar season with the bat in 2025. He scored 947 runs, including four centuries and three half-centuries, at an average of 47.35.
3rd XI captain: Charles Daniels
Club chairman Charlie will continue in his role as 3rd XI captain. In 2024 he led his side to the 3rd XI Premier League title following victory in the Embee Trophy in 2023.
4th XI captain: Tim Yates
Tim joined Sefton Park in 2016 and has become a popular member of the 3rd and 4th XI squads in recent years. He enjoyed a fine season with the bat in 2025 scoring almost 400 runs at an average of 47.35.
Sunday XI: Alex Woods
A brilliant wicketkeeper batter, Alex continues in his role as Sunday XI skipper.
Sunday XI: Ronan Brady
One of the leading wicket takers in the club over the past few seasons, Ronan will once again lead the Sunday XI.
Midweek XI: Mark Boyns
One of the longest serving players at the club, Mark led the newly revived Midweek XI to victory in Division Three of the Liverpool Business Houses Cricket League in 2025 and will continue in the role in 2026.
Huge thanks goes to Dave Kelly for his spell as 2nd XI captain and to Jo Ledbury for his long stint leading the 4th XI.
The senior cricket committee is comprised of the captains and the following:
Chair: Mark Boyns
Secretary: Matt Young
Sponsorship: Jimmy Dixon
EDI: Ronan Brady
Outgoing Chair Andy Aitchison will continue to sit on the committee, looking after registrations. Thanks to Andy for his hard work as chair.
