The First XI welcomed Maghull to Sefton Park where the hosts won the toss and decided to field before a rain delay meant a start was eventually made at around 1:45pm.

For the visitors a stand of 51 for the third wicket took them to 78 for 3 before tea was taken with the score on 84 for 5.

After the break, Sefton took two quick wickets to make it 88 for 7 but Maghull grafted hard for their tale end runs, putting on 29 for the ninth wicket before the introduction of Huzaifa Zubair to the attack quickly brought about the fall of the last two wickets and Maghull were all out for 134 in 40.3 overs.

Huzaifa finished with 5 for 38, Daksh Singhvi 3 for 35 and Abhishek Jagon 2 for 11.

In reply, it looked like Sefton would face about 30 overs.

Unfortunately Haroon Khan. who scores his runs, quickly fell to the first ball of the innings before Chris Bellis (22) and Ben Percival (28) built a stand of 56 together. After both departed skipper James Stirling and Matt Young steadied the innings. Matt was out for 13 with the score on 87 for 4 with the home side still 50 runs short and with the overs slipping away. James was out for 18 to stunning catch in the deep with the score on 98 for 7 and the game on a knife edge. Huzaifa was at the wicket and proceeded to hit 19 off 13 balls with 2 fours and a six. After Daksh hit 9 off 9 balls, Abhishek came to the wicket and hit 11 in 6 balls including the winning with a huge six. Sefton won with an over to spare and two wickets left.

The First XI remain 7th in the table with the visit of Sutton scheduled for next week.

The Second XI travelled to play table toppers Northern.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat first. They were rarely troubled as they made their way to 228 for 5 dec off 42 overs with Pete Ostler taking 2 for 38.

In reply, Jeremy Rogers scored 66, Tom Rushton 38, Scott Aitchison 40 and Pete 22 not out off 15 balls but Sefton finished just 20 runs short in 46 overs with 7 wickets down.

The drawn game meant that the Seconds are now in sixth place


Birkenhead Thirds were the visitors to Sefton Park to play Sefton's Thirds on the Lower Ground

Sefton won the toss and decided to bat first. Jack Sawbridge scored 54, Adam Taylor 40 and James Whittaker 23 in their total of 180 in 34.4 overs.

A strong bowling attack gave Sefton hope of finishing the game quickly but it was not the way. Birkenhead lasted 47.1 overs before being dismissed for 158.

Chris Mitchell finished with 5 for 19 and Ronan Brady 3 for 39.

A mention for James Whittaker who showed immense bravery after receiving a nasty blow to the face while fielding.

The in-form Thirds are now second in the table.

Jack Sawbridge scored 54 for the thirds in their win over Birkenhead Park


The Fourths travelled to play Maghull's Thirds.

Sefton batted first and declared on 205 for 4 with Rob Kennedy scoring 31. Daniel Cuthbert 54 and Jeffin Jimmy 60 not out.

Maghull made no attempt to chase the total and Daniel Cuthbert took 2 for 27 as they reached 81 for 4 in a drawn game.
