As we reach the half way mark for the season, the First XI hoped for a change of luck and form as they welcomed third placed Highfield to Sefton Park.

Highfield won the toss and decided to field first.

After two small interruptions for rain, Ben Percival and Chris Bellis (26) put on 51 for the first wicket. When Ben was out for 38, the score was 109 for 3. Paul Horton scored 51 and Matt young 22 to take the score to a competitive 176 all out in the 53rd over.

Highfield had an hour and a quarter plus the 20 overs to win the game.

In reply, Sefton reduced Highfield to 27 for 2 and then 37 for 3 and 43 for 4. They next reached 98 for six and put on their biggest stand of the day, 44 for the seventh wicket. At that point, the game could have gone either way, but after losing two wickets on 142, they lost the remaining two for on 144 to give Sefton a 32 run victory.

Sefton remain seventh in the table.

The Second XI crossed the Mersey to play Birkenhead Park.

The home side won the toss and decided to bat first. they were soon in trouble at 8 for 2 and relied on a stand of 48 for the ninth wicket to take them to a respectable 131 all out in 41.3 overs. Michael Kelly took 2 for 39, Sarhad Rustum 2 for 9 and Mark Chappell 4 for 31.

Sefton's reply was steady with four batters reaching their twenties, Alex Woods (26), Sarhad Rustum (29), Andy Aitchison (26) and Scott Aitchison 23 not out as they passed the Birkenhead total with 5 wickets down in the 41st over

The Seconds are third in the table just seven points behind table toppers Northern with a game in hand.


The Thirds made the same journey to Birkenhead Park.

Birkenhead batted first and were dismissed for 55 with Ronan Brady taking 5 for 14 and Chris Mitchell 4 for 24.

Sefton knocked off the runs without losing a wicket. James Daniels scored 25 not out and James Whittaker 23 not out


The Fourth XI played Wavertree's Thirds on the Lower Ground.

Sefton batted first and saw the openers Rob Kennedy (30) and Scott Hawkes (43) put on 70 for the first wicket. Adam Taylor later scored 53 and 26 from Mike Heaney enabled them to reach 207 all out in 48.4 overs.

In reply Wavertree were able to bat for 46 overs but finished on 187 for 7 in a drawn game.

Andy Fallows took 3 for 43, Mark Boyns 2 for 56 and Adam Taylor 2 for 39
