On another boiling hot Sunday, Croxteth Drive witnessed a special day for our women and girls' section as Sefton Park took on Lindow in the inaugural Thunder Cup.
In all honesty it was a tough afternoon at the office for our ladies as Lindow's openers both scored tons, putting on 270 for the first wicket.
But the Sefton side stuck to their task impressively despite the visitors amassing a score of 381-6 from 50 overs.
Sefton's Lancashire Academy player Emilia Lamb (94) and Alice Kelly (49) put on 106 for the fourth wicket but Sefton were ultimately bowled out for 190.
With our younger girls trying out pads and helmets for the first time, a net for our hardball girls and a quick softball game between innings, it was a day where we aimed to involve everyone.
And not forgetting Sefton's own Kirsty Blackham who umpired the game and a brilliant cake sale which raised almost £200 for the club.
Thanks to everyone who came to support!

The Sefton Women and Girls line up after the game
Sefton Sunday AWXI had a tough day in the field as Newton-le-Willows posted 295-3d inside 40 overs. James Whittaker (37) and Shadab Khan (42) top-scored for Sefton and a rearguard action took the game deep into the last hour but Sefton were ultimately bowled out for 192.
Sefton U11 Reds had a big derby game in the sun against Liverpool Thunder. Both innings started inauspiciously for the Sefton side with a wicket lost first ball batting and the first ball bowled nailed for 4! Fortunately these proved to be anomalies as Sefton ran out comfortable winners 289 playing 253 - some excellent batting and bowling.
It was an early start at Wadham Road for our youngest side but both parents and kids were rewarded with a win and a one run defeat for Sefton U9s at the Bootle tournament.
