James Whittaker's Sunday XI kicked off their Premier Division campaign with a tough trip to Newton le Willows. The host's opener Josh Davies hit an unbeaten 164 off 129 balls to take his side to 264-3 declared off 41 overs. In reply, the skipper top scored with 31 but Sefton crumbled to 91 all out and a 173 run defeat.
Alex Wood's side played their second game in Division One on Sefton Park's Lower Ground against local rivals Wavertree and were in a spot of bother until an unbeaten 72 from Jack Clements and 54 not out from James Wood enabled them to declare on 195-6 from 41.3 overs. James then completed a brilliant performance, taking 5-63 from 19.5 overs, with support from young debutant Frank Shovlin (3-21) and Eleanor Cantwell (2-31) as Wavertree were dismissed for 154, to make it two wins out of two for the JW XI.
Sunday morning saw another proud landmark for our women and girl's section as the Under 13 Girls side played their first ever hardball match against a visiting Northern team. The game ended in a heavy defeat for our girls against a vastly more experienced (and older!) side but a brilliant experience for all going forward and a testament to the hard work going on behind the scenes in our women's section.
The Sefton U13 Girls side played their first ever hardball game on Sunday.
