Sunday, May 21 - Three half-centuries as 2nd XI thrash Newton le Willows

The cup games continued at Croxteth Drive on Sunday with the 2nd XI taking on Newton le Willows in round one of the Chester Cup.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the hosts made the most of the sunny weather with an opening partnership of 96 between Jeremy Rogers (40) and Rob Supria (54). Our new Australian import and expectant father, Nathan Paul, is proving a player to watch as he struck three sixes and five fours in his knock of 51, before Scott Aitchison hit an unbeaten 77 off 50 balls (6x4, 5x6). Further contributions from Luke Connolly (37 rtd) and Devandru Chittaranjan (23) ensured Sefton reached an imposing 297-4 off their 45 overs.

A devastating opening spell from Asiri Gamage (3-6) meant Newton le Willows were always up against it and they were eventually bowled out for 177.

The Sunday 3rd XI travelled to Prescot and Odyssey in the First Division South and produced an excellent bowling performance to dismiss the hosts for 107. Mohammed Ibrahim was the pick of the bowlers with 4-11. Opener and stand-in skipper Rob Kennedy led the reply with an unbeaten 53 as Sefton reached the target for the loss of three wickets. Habeeb Ali scored 28 not out.

In the Women's T20 League, Sefton Park travelled to Liverpool and posted 117-4 with an unbeaten half-century from opener Sara Jackson (58no) the highlight. 'SJ' then chipped in with 2-19 with Lucy Brooks taking 3-5 as the hosts were restricted to 88-8. A great win for Sefton in their opening fixture of the league.
