Tuesday 13th May - Midweek cup success

Sefton 2XI moved through to the second round of the Chrysalis T20 Cup with a 47 run win on Tuesday evening.

Scott Aitchison (65) and Luke Connolly (36) put on 73 for the opening wicket before Tom Rushton (34*) and Dave Kelly (21*) took the Sefton score to 170-3 from their 20 overs.

Despite losing two early wickets, New Brighton were ahead of the rate after seven overs - but three wickets in five overs derailed their chase. Connor Melia's 2-19 the pick of figures as New Brighton closed on 123-6.

Sefton will now host either Caldy or Wavertree in the second round.

Sefton Women were also winners on the lower ground, beating Formby by 34 runs in the LDCC Super 8s Hardball Plate Knockout. Sefton 115-1; Formby 111-7.
