Weekend 1st/2nd May - First XI defeat at New Brighton, Second XI home win against S & B

The First XI travelled to New Brighton for their second game back in the Premier Division.

The home side batted first after winning the toss but did not find the going easy against the young Sefton Park bowling attack. They lost the first wicket on 2 and the second on 7, both to Huzaifa Zubair, they put on 60 for the third wicket and then batted steadily to reach 171 all out in 46.5 overs. Jimmy Dixon finished with 3 for 73, Huzaifa Zubair 2 for 28, Raheem Kasser 3 for 45 and Leo Spilsbury 2 for 8 in 6 overs with 5 maidens.

Sefton's reply was without last week's half century maker, Harry Lewis, and struggled. Scott Aitchison batted at number four and finished up on 25 not out but only Adam Coates (11) and Huzaifa Zubair (run out for 12) also reached double figures as they dismissed for 74 in the 38th over.

Sefton Park gained five bowling points


At Sefton ParK, The Second XI achieved the Club's first victory of the season.

They faced Southport and Birkdale who won the toss and elected to bat. They reached 201 for 4 declared in 43.1 overs with Asif Saeed, Dave Kelly, Chris Mitchell and Louis Disley taking a wicket apiece.

Sefton Park early reply was based around Asif Saeed who despite being hit on the body and the head scored 50. When he was out, Pete Ostler (48) and Dave Kelly (40) put on 63 for the fifth wicket to leave Sefton on the verge of victory but when Alan Durand was out for 5, youngsters James Stirling and Louis Disley were left in the middle requiring 6 runs off the last over of the day, this they achieved in some style after 4 balls and Sefton won by 3 wickets.

The Third Xi travelled to Crosby to play Northern's Thirds.

Northern batted first and declared on 225 for 3 in 41 overs. Mark Boyns took 3 for 68 off 18 overs.

In reply, Paul Morris scored 62 from 48 balls and James Daniels 36 off 62 balls. but in the end, it was Corran Murphy (34 not out off 59) and Ronan Brady (8 not out off 22) who faced the last 10 overs to achieve a draw. Sefton finished on 207 for 9 in 55 overs.


Sunday 2nd May


Phil Foster's Sunday Xi played New Brighton's Sunday XI at Rake Lane New Brighton.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first and went on to declare on 270 for 6 in 38 overs. Sam Parkinson took 2 for 39 and Ronan Brady 3 for 65.

In reply, Phil Mcloughlin scored 26, James Whitaker 74 and Tom Bongers 47 not out as Sefton Park reached 223 for 6 in 48 overs for a drawn game.


There was a win for Paul Stirling's XI at Sefton Park where Whitefield's third XI were the visitors.

Whitefield were dismissed for 186 with Paul Stirling taking 4 for 33 and Louis Disley 2 for 24.

Sefton Park's reply saw the second Sefton century of the season as Harry Deveney scored 125 not out and Louis Disley scored 50, the only wicket to fall a they passed the Whitefield total.
